Justice Kane was appointed Justice for the California
Court of Appeal where he served from 1971-1979; Superior Court Judge,
San Mateo County, 1969-1971.
EXPERIENCE AND SPECIALTIES
In private practice, Justice Kane tried over
250 civil jury cases to verdict and has represented individual and
corporate clients in litigation of all types, including business
disputes, family law matters, professional liability, trusts and
estates, real estate, insurance coverage and bad faith and cases
involving both federal and state constitutional issues. He serves
as a Special Master and Referee for the Courts and as Arbitrator
and Mediator in complex litigation matters.
In his judicial experience in the trial court,
Justice Kane presided over wide variety of cases, including international
trade, securities, labor, environmental law, health care, personal
injury, professional liability and toxic torts. He was appointed
United States Ambassador to Ireland, 1984-1985, and served as United
States Arbitrator for a treaty dispute with Poland, 1982.
SPECIAL HONORS AND MEMBERSHIPS
Judge Kane serves as a faculty member, Hastings
Center for Trial and Appellate Advocacy, and is a frequent lecturer
for Continuing Education of the Bar programs sponsored by the California
Bar.
Past President, California Judges Association;
Fellow, American College of Trial Lawyers, International Society
of Barristers and American Board of Trial Advocates; Master Bencher
and Founding Member, American Inns of Court, San Francisco Chapter.
